Being diagnosed with Cancer or any other life limiting disease is a very confronting time, filled with shock and disbelief. I will discuss with you a plan to assist you manage your medical treatment.
If you are caring for someone with cancer, this massage will also be very beneficial for you. It will give you some much needed space to re-energize and nourish yourself so you can continue to care for your loved one. It is so important that you make some time for yourself when caring for someone with a life limiting illness. I understand how demanding the caring role is.
I have written a 6 month program called “Rebuild your Health“ for people who have completed Chemotherapy or Radiotherapy and are wanting to regain their strength, rebuild their immune system and remove the toxins from their body.
What is Oncology Massage?
Oncology Massage is the adaptation of massage to an individual with cancer or a history of cancer. It is systemic touch that is very gentle yet profound.
Oncology Massage works with the fascia just beneath the skin. The fascia is a web of connective tissue that connects us from head to toe. Immune system cells move through the fascia as the body requires them.
Adjustments are made in consideration of:
- Lymph node removal;
- Chemotherapy;
- Radiotherapy;
- Mastectomy.
Is Oncology Massage Safe?
Oncogenesis is the formation of a tumour and occurs when external factors such as viruses or hereditary factors change the normal function of cellular DNA. These malfunctioning cells are weak, unstable and erratic by nature and if the immune system is awake they will be killed.
These cells keep moving through the body looking for somewhere to connect and grow. Therefore they are spread biologically not mechanically which is why Oncology Massage is a safe treatment for cancer patients – Oncology Massage does not spread Cancer. The NSW Cancer Council have some great information on Massage and Cancer. I would recommend that if you are going to use massage as part of your health plan to please ensure that you choose a therapist who has been trained specifically in Oncology Massage. You will find a list of trained therapists on the Oncology Massage Training website and you can search by State and then location. If you have had nodes removed you have a risk of lymphodema which is one reason why you need a trained Oncology Massage Therapist.
I will work with women who have a mastectomy scar/s to help heal the area. It may take a few weeks to notice any improvement but it will make a difference.
I will work with people currently living with cancer and I will show their carer how to give their loved one massage at home or before,during or after their treatments.
What are the benefits of Oncology Massage?
During an Oncology Massage the body’s natural relaxation reflex known as the Relaxation Response is activated. The relaxation response is what switches off stress and the resulting cascade of harmful biochemical reactions related to it. This is also why this type of massage is so beneficial to carers. The carers health is imperative to the wellbeing of the person with cancer.
Oncology Massage Therapy after surgery, during or after chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments offers many benefits:
- Increases range of motion and ease of movement;
- Reduces pain, anxiety and nausea;
- Gives a feeling of increased energy and sense of wellbeing;
- Reduces scar tissue build up;
- Increases circulation for healing of skin, fascia and muscles;
- Facilitates return to activities of daily living;
- Establishes a positive relationship with the body; and
- Gentle massage is nurturing and healing.
The duration of the massage will depend on your current condition and your degree of fatigue. I use Melrose Almond Oil for this massage and Rasasara products for Radiation burns.
After your treatment, I invite you to stay for a cup of herbal tea and remain in your relaxed state a little longer before you leave the clinic.
Cost: $70 – 60 mins $35 – 30 mins
Testimonial: My massage was very relaxing and felt as if I was being caressed by warm water gently lapping around my limbs. My mind was quietened also. These massages are very beneficial like a warm blanket. Thank you very much.

Testimonial: Dear Linda, You are truly an amazing woman with a generous heart and a beautiful soul. I would like to thank you for taking such good care of me during my darkest days of chemotherapy, the gentleness of hands as you massaged my sad body every week for months to help me gain some kind of inner peace in my mind and my devastated body. I know that some of the techniques the Ayurvedic doctor wanted you to work with were new to you, but you persisted until it was perfected and the programme was complete. I would certainly be more than happy to recommend you to anyone who needs an Oncology or Ayurvedic massage, or guidance with their diet, lifestyle and nutrition to make positive, lasting changes in their life. Many, many thanks and I wish you God’s blessings always.
With love Marina
