What is the importance of taking time out to Retreat?
I love to retreat and take time to just be with myself. For me it’s a very important part of my spiritual practice as well as important to rejuvenate my mind and body.
The benefits of retreat are:
- Space and environment conducive for meditation which calms the mind and body;
- Space to rejuvenate and rest;
- Space to renew your energy;
- Space to be silent in speech and thoughts; and
- Space to nourish your body with good and simple food.
Our society doesn’t allow us or value the fact that we need to take time to rejuvenate. The consequence of not having quiet and rest is we become so depleted imbalance settles into our bodies and minds.
Unfortunately we live in a society where our health system focuses on symptom and disease management. Prevention and maintaining health is much more in line with nature and how we are meant to be.
What we can do is schedule time out from the stress and activity of our daily lives. I imagine your first response is that you just don’t have time or that you just can’t think about this at the moment. I imagine it adds to the sense of overwhelm that many of us feel.
I would like to offer the opportunity for you to start small and have a taste of what retreating can do for you.
Due to the huge success of the Retreat Days in 2012, I am continuing to offer regular 1 day retreats for women to spend some time relaxing and re-energizing. You don’t have to attend them all. Start with one! My intention is to create and hold space for you to start to practice to take time for yourself. The retreats are planned for the change of season and what you can expect from the day is:
- Ayurvedic tips for the season the retreat is in;
- Yoga Nidra meditation;
- Relaxation techniques that can be integrated into your daily life;
- Nourishing vegetarian lunch;
- Loving kindness meditation;
- Self massage techniques; and
- Parts of the day will be silent.

- A cup, bowl/plate, spoon and fork.
I would like you to keep these items you are asked to bring as special for the retreat day. It is part of building the environment and if you have the opportunity to have some time to yourself these items will help create the environment for you at home.

Testimonial: I recently attended the Retreat Day at Rainbow Atma. I had never been to a Retreat Day before and meditation was always one of those practices that never seemed to come naturally to me. So I was very excited at the prospect of indulging in a day just for me. My main objective was to learn some skills that would help me to relax my mind. A relaxed mind is a healthy body. From the moment I arrived, Linda created a wonderful atmosphere that was very warm, friendly, open and sharing. Linda navigated us through the day in a flowing connectedness with great precision and management that felt easy to enjoy and experience. The day was relaxing, calming, peaceful and punctuated with periods of silence that allowed us to contemplate gratitude as so often in life, we don’t stop to really appreciate all the gifts that are right in front of us. I was also fortunate to feed my body and taste buds with a delicious Ayurvedic lunch. Linda taught a few different meditations and the experience was amazing for me. Under Linda’s guiding influence I could meditate and was elated by the experience. Unfortunately, the day came to an end, however, I left the Retreat Day, so relaxed and calm physically but also clear and energized mentally. I would absolutely recommend Linda’s practice to anyone who wants to renew or create positive health for their mind, body and soul. I believe that with good health comes good quality of life. Thank you Linda for the healthy impact that your Retreat Day has had on me.
